In a strategic move to enhance transparency and promote fair pricing in the agricultural sector, the Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation (PM&E) component of the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA) recently embarked on a two-day Market Price Validation Exercise across the state’s three agro-ecological zones.

The exercise, led by the Head of Component (PM&E), Mr. Yunusa Babatunde Yussuf, commenced on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, with visits to the Eastern Zone at Imota Market (Ikorodu axis) and the Far Eastern Zone at Pobo Market (Epe axis). During the visits, the validation team engaged directly with local traders to collect accurate data on the prices and weights of key agricultural commodities.
The initiative aims to assess existing pricing structures, identify trends across markets, and validate that agricultural prices are aligned with current economic conditions.
The second leg of the exercise took place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Agbalata Market in the Western Zone (Badagry axis). With support from on-ground enumerators, the team was able to interact with a wide range of traders and successfully gather price and weight data for numerous agricultural products.
“This Market Price Validation Exercise was conducted to ensure that agricultural prices are justified based on production and distribution costs, competitive across zones, and ultimately profitable for farmers and traders while remaining fair for consumers,” said Mr. Yunusa.
The data collected will serve as a critical input in shaping government pricing policies, improving intervention strategies, and strengthening the agricultural value chain within Lagos State.
This exercise underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to evidence-based planning and its ongoing efforts to foster a transparent, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural market system that benefits all stakeholders.
Also present at the exercise were HOSC (EVALUATION), Mrs. Balogun Abolanle Omotunde, HOSC (PLANNING), Mr. Somiyewo Okikiola as well as other members of the team.
