The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a public apology to candidates and stakeholders following the discovery of technical issues in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for School Candidates.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, from its Yaba headquarters in Lagos, WAEC acknowledged the glitch and attributed it to new anti-malpractice measures introduced during the examination process.

One of the key innovations was the adoption of paper serialisation, a method already in use by another national examination body. This was implemented in major subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
However, an internal post-release review revealed that technical bugs affected the accuracy of some candidates’ scores.
As a corrective measure, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to the results via its online result checker portal while it works to fix the issues.
The council assured the public that the errors would be addressed transparently and resolved within 24 hours.
WAEC expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused and advised candidates who have already checked their results to revisit the portal after the 24-hour correction window for updated scores.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our candidates and the public as we work diligently to correct this matter,” the statement read.
“WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes.”
