Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Demonstrating its commitment to peace and justice, the Rotary Club of PH Odili Meadow has facilitated the release of a mother and son who spent six months in Port Harcourt Correctional Center after being unable to meet bail conditions in a land dispute case.
The case, which stemmed from a failed land transaction, left the pair stranded in detention despite being granted bail, as financial constraints and abandonment by relatives kept them imprisoned.
Recognizing the injustice of their prolonged detention, the Rotary Club stepped in, covering the bail bond and securing their freedom in line with Rotary International’s focus on *peacebuilding and conflict resolution.*
Tears of relief streamed down the mother’s face as she walked out of the correctional facility, thanking the club for their lifesaving intervention. *“When even our own family turned their backs, Rotary gave us hope,”* she said.
Their lawyer, Joseph Igbani who had worked tirelessly to secure their bail, praised the club’s actions. *“This is more than charity—it’s restorative justice. By addressing the financial barrier to their freedom, Rotary has resolved a conflict that the legal system alone could not.”*

In appreciation to the lawyer Joseph Igbani, the Club presented an award of Peace building and Conflict Resolution Champion to him for all his efforts towards the family.
