In a significant move to foster a culture of consumer rights awareness and advocacy among Nigerian youths, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), on Friday, inaugurated the LASCOPA Community Development Service (CDS) Club at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State Secretariat, Babs Animashaun, Surulere.

The inauguration ceremony, held with great enthusiasm and participation, marked a strategic collaboration between the Agency and the NYSC aimed at equipping corps members with the knowledge and tools to serve as consumer rights ambassadors in their various places of primary assignment and host communities across Lagos state.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the Consumer Education department of LASCOPA, Mrs. Folashade Ashaye, who represented the General Manager of the Agency, described the inauguration as a milestone in the Agency’s mission to protect and promote consumer interests in Lagos State.

She emphasised the critical role of young people in driving advocacy and enforcement of consumer rights, especially in a dynamic and ever-evolving marketplace.

“The establishment of the LASCOPA CDS Club is in line with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to inclusive governance and consumer protection,” Ashaye said. “We are deliberately engaging the youth through this platform because they represent the most vibrant and vocal segment of society who can drive meaningful change in consumer behaviour and business ethics.”

She charged the newly inaugurated club members to take the initiative seriously by becoming active watchdogs and educators in the consumer space, adding that LASCOPA will continue to provide technical support, training, and resources to strengthen their capacity.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the NYSC CDS Coordinator for Lagos, Mrs. Bunmi Oladokun, commended LASCOPA for its visionary partnership with the NYSC. She noted that the collaboration would not only enhance the knowledge base of the corp.
