Minister Commissions Multi-Specialty Specialty Complex, other Projects at FMC Keffi

Dr Iziaq Salako, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare has commissioned the Multi Specialty Complex and other projects at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Keffi.

Salako commissioned the projects in Keffi local government area of Nasarawa state recently.

Our reporter gathered that aside the Multi Specialty Complex, the Minister also commissioned the centre’s solar energy infrastructure and it’s Atmospheric Water Generator recently donated by Embassy of Japan-the first in West Africa which will produce 1000 litres of water from the atmosphere daily.

In his speech, Salako praised the management of the institution for executing key transformative projects designed to improve healthcare services at the centre and significantly enhance tertiary healthcare delivery in the state and the North Central region.

He said the execution of the projects are in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu in putting priority attention to the provision healthcare, including needed specialist care to Nigerians wherever they need it.

“I am happy to note that FMC Keffi has keyed into this agenda and is playing it’s role to deliver healthcare to our people.

“I congratulate the management and staff of this hospital for this milestone achievement which is another testament to the impactful vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He however emphasized on the need for the newly completed projects to be well maintained and used to the benefit of those who visit the medical centre.

“I therefore challenge the management of this hospital to immediately put in place a maintenance framework for these facilities in order to ensure optimal functionality and sustainability,.

“Let me also encourage all health workers to ensure proper utilization of these facilities, using them to provide quality care and protecting them like their personal properties,” he said.

He then appreciated the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule for all the support extended to the medical centre to enable it carry out it’s mandate of providing health care services to patients.

Dr Emmanuel Akabe, Nasarawa Deputy Governor in his remarks also lauded management of the centre for the projects and assured them that their request to state government for building of structures at it’s permanent site will get a positive response soon.

“I want to thank our president and our ministers for all the support you have been giving to the health sector. On our part as a state we will continue to support the Federal Medical Centre Keffi and be rest assured we are partners in progress,” he said.

In his opening remarks, Dr Yahaya Baba-Adamu, Medical Director, FMC Keffi said the compelling reason for the building of the new Multi Specialty Complex and other projects is to meet the health needs of the continuous overflow of patients to the centre year-in year-out.

He said the Multi Specialty Complex will accommodate the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Head and Neck surgery department, Ophthalmology department, Physiotherapy department and Dental department.

He added that the atmospheric water generator also obviates the challenge of procurement of distilled de-ionized water in critical areas like hospital laboratory, renal dialysis unit, surgical theatre and pharmaceutical uses while the solar energy infrastructure will complement in providing adequate power supply to the centre

“We believe that the underlined projects above and many more are in alignment with the vision of Mr President which is keeping with the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians,” he said.

Baba-Adamu listed other ongoing projects at the medical centre to include 116 beds Mega Lying-in ward, Neuropsychiatric Complex and the public health complex and thanked the federal government for the continuous support towards completing the projects.

“Also as we speak,the intervention project of state-of-the-art radio diagnostic centre is under construction as well as ongoing construction of trauma center and our first staff quarters project. We look forward to more projects at the FMC Keffi,” he said.

He then appealed for enhanced welfare to further motivate the staff of the medical centre, adding that despite the current economy situation, staff of the centre have been making enormous sacrifices and giving their best.

“Incentivization of the workforce is needed in areas of unpaid promotion arrears, budget line for training departments to allow for full sponsorship and funding of courses, workshops and conferences,” he added.
