.The Federal Government of Nigeria extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Zambia following the passing of former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Aged 68.

 

President Lungu, who led Zambia from 2015 to 2021, dedicated his service to the nation with a steadfast commitment to progress.

His tenure was marked by notable achievements, including infrastructure development, regional diplomacy, and the promotion of national unity, while upholding the spirit of, “One Zambia, One Nation.”

 

In a statement, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended his visionary leadership, which saw the historic appointment of Zambia’s first female President and advanced initiatives in economic diversification, inclusivity, and social cohesion.

 

The Nigerian Government also recognizes President Lungu’s contributions to amplifying Africa’s voice globally and his unwavering advocacy for regional solidarity and integration within the continent.

 

Nigeria stands in solemn solidarity with the Lungu family, the Patriotic Front, and the people of Zambia during this period of national mourning.

 

Therefore, Nigeria joins the international community in honouring his legacy and pray that his gentle soul rests in eternal peace.
