The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated seven waste segregation disposal facilities to Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the handover event, the Director of Environmental Protection and Control at the NDDC, Engr. Obeka Onouha, highlighted that the university campus is environmentally sensitive, owing to its green campus policy. He noted that the commission was invited to support this existing environmental culture.

“With your already established waste management system, these segregated waste facilities will help improve waste collection,” he added.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University, the Director of Works, Arc. Henry Onu, commended the NDDC for its numerous interventions that have benefited the institution. He assured that the donated waste facilities would be put to good use.
Earlier in the day, the NDDC held a roadshow to celebrate and raise awareness of World Environment Day 2025, themed “End Plastic Pollution.”
The donation and roadshow align with the broader goals of the World Environment Day celebration, which focuses on raising awareness and promoting action to preserve and protect our environment.
