Ogun State, Nigerian Navy Partner to Establish Naval Base and Dockyard for Enhanced Security and Economic Growth

The Nigerian Navy and the @OGSG_Official are set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a Naval Base and Dockyard in Ode-Omi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. Governor @DapoAbiodunCON emphasized the importance of this initiative for enhancing security along the state’s waterways, particularly to safeguard the area’s hydrocarbon resources and deter criminal activities.

 

The state government has allocated 100 hectares of land for the project, waived fees amounting to billions of naira, and provided a Certificate of Occupancy to the Navy. Access roads to the site are expected to be completed within the week. Governor Abiodun noted that the Naval Base would complement ongoing projects like the Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas and Deep Sea Port, further boosting Ogun State’s economy and investment potential.

The Governor commended the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, for supporting the establishment of a Naval presence in the state, including on Tongeji Island. Rear Admiral Mike Oamen, Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, praised the Governor’s commitment to security and assured that the Navy would fully support the state in securing its maritime zones and completing the base promptly.
