The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi has called on stakeholders in the health sector to uphold the highest standards of professionalism to enhance service delivery, emphasising the crucial role of public health and well-being in the state.

Dr. Ogunyemi made the call during a capacity-building and training session for staff of HEFAMAA, monitoring, and franchisees held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, themed: “Strengthening Monitoring Capacities for Quality and Safe Health in Lagos State.”

The Special Adviser highlighted the importance of equipping participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively audit healthcare services through their franchise operations.

She urged participants to manage their franchises responsibly, noting that the services they provide have a direct impact on improving lives across the state.

“Thank you for your commitment and dedication to excellence. Let us embark on this journey with enthusiasm and a shared vision for success,” she said.

Earlier, Dr. Abiola Idowu, the Executive Secretary of the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), spoke on the Agency’s vital role in ensuring quality healthcare services across Lagos State.

She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his outstanding contributions to the health sector, which have significantly enhanced healthcare delivery in the state.

Dr. Idowu urged the participants to continue their support for the government’s health initiatives, particularly in line with the goals of the present administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

The Executive Secretary emphasised that HEFAMAA’s work is central to maintaining the health and safety of the populace while also encouraging participants to prioritize patient safety and professionalism in their monitoring practices.

She also reminded them that their work directly influences the quality of care that patients receive, and their efforts contribute to building a healthier, more resilient Lagos State.

“As we move forward, let us remember that the health of every Lagosian depends on the quality of the services we ensure,” she added.

One of the facilitators, Daniel Olayinka, Director of the Monitoring and Inspection Department at HEFAMAA, shared insightful perspectives on the agency’s role in monitoring and inspection within Lagos State’s healthcare system.

He explained that the core function of HEFAMAA’s monitoring and inspection is to ensure that health facilities adhere to the required standards for safety, cleanliness, and quality of care.

Dr. Olayinka stressed the importance of regular audits to identify gaps and ensure compliance with regulations set by the government.

He further elaborated on the techniques employed by HEFAMAA’s monitoring teams to assess health facilities, which includes unannounced inspections, regular follow-up evaluations, and detailed assessments of facilities’ operations.
