To ensure smooth administrative operations and address the medical challenges faced by People With Disabilities (PWDs) in various homes, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has provided financial support to homes catering to the needs of PWDs in Lagos State.
Speaking recently at the LASODA Office, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal affirmed that the state government remains committed to meeting the needs of all persons with disabilities in Lagos.
She explained that over the years, the Agency has supported and fostered strong relationships with various disability groups and nonprofit homeowners. This collaboration has consistently improved the capacity of these homes and organizations to better meet the specific needs of their residents.
In her words, “We are presenting support to individuals and nonprofit homes that have registered with the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs. We currently have over 80 such homes registered with the Agency, and we are striving to create an opportunity to provide staggered support over time. We are also offering financial assistance to individuals who need to undergo medical procedures.”
The General Manager called for support from the public to back government policies that prioritize persons with disabilities, emphasising that the current administration is committed to ensuring that every member of society, regardless of disability, is prioritized.
She further stated, “We hope that we can secure corporate partnerships to help us improve the lives of persons with disabilities, whether as individuals or children in homes run by dedicated people who have taken these children off the streets. We will continue providing various support forms, as much as our capacity allows.”
Among the various homes that received funding were the Festus Fajemilo Foundation, Glamour Special School, Out of School Children, Lady Atinuke, Patrick Speech and Language Centre, and Diamond Centre for Children with Disabilities.
In turn, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the state government through the agency for the support provided in previous years, enabling them to improve their services and raise the bar in their operations.
