“A Season of Love: ONELGA’s Christmas Funfair Brings Joy, Hope, and Miracles to Hundreds”

In Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), this Christmas was not just a celebration—it was a lifeline, a burst of joy, and a beacon of hope for hundreds of families. From December 25th to 27th, the ONELGA Christmas Funfair unfolded in spectacular fashion, bringing together over 1,500 children and adults in a festive gathering that will remain etched in the hearts of all who attended.
While fears of stampedes at large events loomed, with tragic reports from Abuja, Okija, and Ibadan, ONELGA proved that joy and safety could coexist. The meticulous planning by the local government ensured that this unprecedented gathering was not only safe but profoundly meaningful.
Led by Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru and his wife, Joy Isaac Umejuru, the funfair was a cascade of laughter, music, and love. But it’s most touching moment came with the distribution of food and household items to less privileged families. Bags of rice, cartons of noodles, gallons of vegetable oil, salt, and other essential provisions found their way to grateful hands, offering families not just sustenance but dignity.

The Nwoko Family: Displaced by the devastating floods earlier this year, they found hope in the funfair. “It feels like we are seen and cared for,” Mrs. Nwoko said tearfully.
The Ezeabas: A family struggling with the loss of their breadwinner described the food packages as a “Christmas miracle.” “For the first time in months, we’ll have a feast,” young Amaka Ezeaba shared.
The Okoris: Relocated due to economic hardship, they received the provisions with gratitude. “This is a second chance for us,” Mr. Okori said.
The Eletas: With nine children to care for, the support brought a sense of relief. “This Christmas is different—there’s hope in the air,” Mrs. Eleta said.
The Madu Family: A retired teacher and his grandchildren described the event as “a gift from heaven.” “The ONELGA Chairman has given us more than food—he’s given us faith,” he said.
Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru shared the motivation behind the initiative, saying, “Christmas is a season of love and giving. We wanted to ensure that no family in ONELGA felt left out, that every child experienced joy and every home felt the warmth of the season.”
Standing by his side, Joy Isaac Umejuru, who played an instrumental role in the event, added, “This isn’t just charity; it’s our duty. Seeing the smiles, especially on the children’s faces, makes every effort worth it.”
For three days, ONELGA will transform into a hub of festive activities. Children reveled in games and music, while adults shared stories of hope and renewal. The community bonded like never before, proving that the spirit of Christmas thrives in unity and kindness.
