LAGOS JUDICIARY PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE HON. JUSTICE BEATRICE ADESUWA OKE-LAWAL (Rtd)

The Lagos State Judiciary recently held a Special Court Session to honour the life and legacy of the Late Hon. Justice Beatrice Adesuwa Oke-Lawal (Rtd.), who passed away on October 28, 2024. The solemn event brought together members of the judiciary, family, friends, and well-wishers to celebrate a remarkable life dedicated to justice, faith, and service at the High Court, Lagos.

 

In his address, the Hon. Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba, represented by Hon. Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye (the Admin Judge Lagos) praised the late Justice Oke-Lawal as a devoted Christian, an accomplished scholar, and a jurist of exceptional integrity. Among her numerous contributions to the legal profession was her widely regarded publication, “The Essential Elements Came Final in the Magistrate Courts”.

Justice Oke-Lawal’s judicial career was marked by excellence and dedication. She served as Deputy Registrar (Admin) of the Lagos State High Court from 2000 to 2004 before her elevation as a High Court Judge in 2004. She served with distinction and integrity until her retirement in October 2022. Her unwavering commitment to fairness, professionalism, and ethical leadership left an enduring impact on the judiciary.

 

A Compassionate Advocate and Faithful Servant, Late Justice Oke-Lawal’s contributions extended beyond the courtroom. In her tribute, Hon. Justice Ipaye described her as a compassionate woman who shared in the burdens of others and worked tirelessly to uplift those in need. Justice Ipaye remarked, “Heaven has gained an angel, but we have lost a gem. She was a woman of many paths, a beacon of integrity, and an inspiration to all.”

 

The Lagos State Judiciary mourns her loss but celebrates the profound impact of her life, which touched countless hearts and upheld the highest standards of justice and humanity.
