The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is partnering with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to develop sustainable technological solutions for environmental challenges in the Niger Delta region.
The NDDC Managing Director/ CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku @drsamuelogbuku, represented by Sir Victor Antai, Executive Director of Projects, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in addressing the region’s persistent flood issues. “We are committed to finding lasting solutions to the perennial flooding in our region, as these challenges cannot be solved by the NDDC alone,” he stated.
In response, Mr. Olivier Van Damme, leader of the @UNOSAT technical team, highlighted UNITAR’s mission to promote evidence-based decision-making for peace, security, and resilience through geospatial information technologies. He noted, “UNITAR has a history of collaboration with local authorities in the region, focusing on environmental conservation and flood management. Our goal is to enhance capacity and provide AI-driven flood monitoring systems.”
Also present at the meeting were Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Executive Director of Corporate Services, and other Directors of the Commission.
