LASG OUTSOURCES FACILITY MANAGEMENT TO ENHANCE HEALTHCARE EFFICIENCY, CREATE MORE JOBS
The Lagos State Government’s initiative to outsource the management of public health facilities to Facility Management companies has enabled the Public Health Agencies across the State to concentrate on their primary mission of delivering healthcare services, rather than being encumbered by facility maintenance and operations.
Ms. Adenike Adekanbi, General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), stated this recently at a meeting with stakeholders, adding that the initiative has also led to the creation of more jobs for the residents of the State.
She explained that the Office was established to outsource services, create opportunities for local contractors and foster a maintenance economy. “We aimed to generate long-term employment opportunities, so we have consistently outsourced our work while adhering strictly to the State Public Procurement Agency stipulated criteria with focus on experience and competency”, the GM stated.
Adekanbi emphasised that the efforts of LASIAMA are directed towards building a maintenance economy that benefits small and medium-sized businesses and positively impacts the community. “All our contractors are Nigerians; we do not engage foreign contractors. They operate and contribute to Lagos communities”, she noted.
Similarly, Mr. Tayo Afolabi, Facility Manager of LODAT Ltd, revealed that his company manages LASUTH with a team of over 400 employees. This diverse workforce includes security personnel, cleaners, technicians, engineers, and safety officers, all hired without restrictions based on gender, ethnicity, religion, or social background.
According to him, LODAT is responsible for the comprehensive management of LASUTH’s facilities, encompassing security, domestic cleaning, and the maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. He emphasised that outsourcing facility management introduces a professional touch that enhances service delivery and operational efficiency, reduce bureaucracy and aligns with the Lagos State Government’s efforts to provide employment opportunities for the state’s large population.
Mr. Afolabi praised LASIAMA for its determined approach to achieving its goals. He described the General Manager as someone who ensures the company fulfils its mandate and intervenes to resolve complex issues. Constant unannounced supervision and ongoing assessment keep LODAT prepared at all times.
He said, “LASIAMA partnership with Facility Management Companies highlights a commitment to quality and efficiency in healthcare delivery, reinforcing Lagos State’s position as a leader in medical excellence and innovation. LODAT, as an example, has an in-house monitoring and compliance team to ensure adherence to standards and regulations at LASUTH.
“The team supervises our daily activities to uphold the standards and regulations governing our engagement. We also have HSE officers who ensure strict adherence to safety and global best practices. We provide LASIAMA with updates on any issues that may need their attention within the facility and address areas beyond our mandate that are crucial for preventing adverse occurrences”.
Recall that Comedian SeyiLaw recently commended the maintenance efforts at the Maternal and Child Centre in Eti-Osa, managed by Lexicon Integrated Facility Management Company contracted by LASIAMA.
