Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has unveiled plans for Ado-Ekiti New City Project. The New City Project aims to create a well-planned residential neighbourhood alongside the traditional section of the state capital.
The governor announced this during the commissioning of three newly constructed roads in Ado-Ekiti: Jimoh Aliu- Adewumi Road, Hospitals Management Board/Doctors’ Quarters Road, and Obisesan- Oke Ala Link Road.
The governor also revealed that no fewer 16 road projects are ongoing across the state, along with the renovation of 11 general hospitals. He urged communities to maintain the new roads by keeping drains clear of refuse to prevent waterlogging and damage.
Outlining his vision for the Ado Ekiti New City project, Governor Oyebanji emphasised the importance of preserving the traditional setting while providing opportunities for a modern, controlled development. The new city aims to solidify Ado-Ekiti’s status as a rapidly developing metropolis while maintaining its ancient heritage. He also highlighted the ongoing Ring Road project, linking Iworoko Road with the International Agro Cargo Airport, as a key development to foster new areas without altering Ado-Ekiti’s traditional setting.
Governor Oyebanji, in closing, pledged that Agric Olope Road and New GRA Extension Phase One Road will be commissioned during the second anniversary of his administration in October, with a contractor already mobilized for the construction of Faglo- Basiri Road in Ado-Ekiti.
The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, Aladesanmi III, and other dignitaries, including Chief (Mrs) Ronke Okusanya participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Residents, landlords’ associations, transport unions, community and religious leaders, youths, and students expressed support for Governor Oyebanji’s initiatives, appreciating the development and improvement in transportation, commerce, and security.
