…describes his death as a painful lost

At 8:45 pm I received a call from Michael Egi that my friend Abu is dead. Egi got the sad news few minutes ago at the venue of Urhobo Historical Society (UHS) Annual Convention held in New York city, US. Hard to believe.

For sometime now I have not heard from Chief Abu. So recently, I called his phone. He didn’t pick so I told my wife to call his wife to find out why he has not been picking calls.

Mrs Abu told my wife that her husband has not been fine for some days and that he would call me when he gets better.

Exactly 11: 41pm, 23rd July 2024, I received a call from Chief Martins Abu who was very much aware I don’t go to bed early.

We exchanged greetings and he told me the wife told him I have been calling without response from his end. As we talked a few minutes, I noticed his voice was a bit low.

He thanked me and we ended the call. Surprisedly I am struck with the news of his passing yesterday 26th July 2024.

Abu was a friend indeed. He respected friendship. He was a jolly good fellow. He was easy going and friend to many. He always called me ‘Olorogun Ziko’. He appreciated my limited contribution to society and told me whenever we talked on phone or met, even we didn’t see often in recent times.

Whenever I invited him for any social event he always attended in full Urhobo chieftaincy regalia, especially of Olomu Kingdom. Abu loved his Urhobo traditional attires.

I will surely miss him.
