78th World Health Assembly, Geneva, Switzerland: Health Minister For State Echoes Nigeria’s Drive For Sustainable Healthcare Financing

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to health sector reforms aimed at achieving sustainable healthcare financing emphasizing the country’s strategic focus on increasing domestic funding, optimizing expenditure, and promoting cost-effective healthcare delivery.
Speaking during a plenary session At the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Salako highlighted the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, a flagship of the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and noted that this initiative, along with the revitalization of Nigeria’s primary healthcare system, is central to efforts in mobilizing domestic resources for health.

Dr. Salako also expressed appreciation to the WHO leadership for the trust placed in Nigeria’s health leadership on the global stage following the recognition and appointment of Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, a Nigerian public health expert, for his new role as Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme.
