Former Vice President and presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar has accepted the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the next general elections, pledging reforms across all sectors.

Speaking after emerging as the party’s candidate, Atiku said he was humbled by the opportunity to lead the ADC into the elections, describing the party as a coalition built on sacrifices and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.

He accused the APC-led government of suppressing opposition parties through the use of state institutions, alleging that security agencies, INEC and elements within the judiciary were being used to intimidate opposition figures and weaken democratic structures.

The ADC candidate also condemned the continued detention of Nasir El-Rufai, despite court orders granting him bail, describing the situation as politically motivated and unjust.

Atiku said an ADC government under his leadership would prioritise security, education, healthcare, economic revival and equitable power-sharing across the country.

He promised massive recruitment and improved welfare for security agencies, while also pledging free and compulsory primary and secondary education.

On the economy, he criticised the APC government over rising poverty, debt accumulation and lack of transparency in public spending, especially regarding subsidy removal savings and contract awards.

The former vice president further pledged investments in healthcare infrastructure, electricity supply and job creation through policies aimed at attracting local and foreign investors.

He called on aggrieved party members and fellow aspirants, including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to unite with the party ahead of the elections, insisting that “there are no winners and no losers.”
