
With palpable anticipation and unwavering resolve, Team Lagos has departed for Abeokuta, Ogun State, poised to deliver an exceptional performance at the 22nd National Sports Festival, dubbed the ‘Gateway Games’.

A formidable contingent of over 650 athletes, representing the state across all 40 team and individual sports, is determined to surpass previous achievements and bring home significant accolades.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Lekan Fatodu, and the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, were on hand on Friday to bid the athletes and officials farewell. Both leaders exuded confidence in the team’s preparation and motivation, charging them to represent Lagos State with pride and strive for outstanding results.
“We have strong indications that Team Lagos will shine brightly at this National Sports Festival,” affirmed Mr. Fatodu. “Our athletes are well-prepared, highly motivated, and ready to make Lagos State proud. We are optimistic that their performance will not only be sterling but will exceed our past successes at this prestigious multi-sports event.”
Mr. Fatodu lauded the unwavering commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s substantial investment and comprehensive support towards the state’s participation in the Games. He urged the athletes to reciprocate this significant backing by giving their absolute best.
Emphasising the Lagos State Sports Commission’s dedication to the athletes’ development, Mr. Fatodu reiterated the state’s commitment to providing platforms for athletes across all sports to showcase their talents.
Echoing this sentiment, Commissioner Ogunlende highlighted the National Sports Festival as a vital platform for young talents to shine. “Governor Sanwo-Olu firmly believes in the positive engagement of our youth in all spheres, and this Sports Festival provides a tremendous opportunity for our athletes to demonstrate their skills and dedication,” he stated.
The athletes, buoyed by the unwavering support and encouragement from the Sports Commission, expressed their gratitude and affirmed their commitment to achieving podium finishes at the National Sports Festival.
The 22nd National Sports Festival officially commenced on Friday with the arrival of contingents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 18,2025.
