Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for 2023 gubernatorial election in Delta state has stressed that the only equitable option on who succeeds President Mohamadu Buhari is for all reasonable Nigerians to embrace a Southern man.
Gbagi was reacting to recent aspersions targeted at his person by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in Delta state just as he charged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar to rescind his publicly declared commitment to implementation of Rural Grazing Area (RUGA).
The SDP guber hopeful noted that with President Buhari from the North ending an eight year rule over Nigeria that is gradually pushing to an end, it does not appeal to equity and fairness to have only one part of the country, North producing his successor.
He said, “It therefore follows that, South will produce the next President which is the only equitable thing for any reasonable man to do and the fact that, such person from the South as it is today that meet the requite of the rotational Presidency of Nigeria as agreed as part of our lives leading are 2 persons as I repeated at the venue, the presidential candidate of SDP, Adewale Adebayo from Ondo state, the Prince who from the South.
“Without sounding immodest, Peter Obi is from the South of Nigeria, we don’t care where or which state these candidates are coming from but the implication of attempting or thinking of doing otherwise will be injurious, people must have character.”
He insisted, “One of the greatest problem that is missing in our lifetime is Character”. It was agreed that reason why it was easy for Buhari to become President because the President who was leaving then came from the South so Buhari from the North is now finishing, “what on earth will make us as a country to remain slaves or think otherwise not to follow that same pattern, why must we drag the nation into another quagmire of violence’ and ungodly behaviour.
“Nigerians should ignore in its totality, we must shun the greed, fear, blackmail to work without arrangement of North-South, North-South as North is finishing South must provide the country with suitable President for us to coexist as a people.
“Look at all the strives, Biafra, Oduduwa, Niger-Delta fighting to go, all of these is just because of distrust and the country thought it wise infact during Babangida regime, this was the fear Babangida had when he established NRC and SDP to fuse Nigerians to live together and come up with the best.
“My position is clear, I want the church to champion this course, I want everybody from the South, every good Nigerian from the North who believe in equity and fairness to champion this course by voting only for a Presidential candidate from the South, it does not matter any childish blackmail anybody talk about so I am surprised that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his media team is attacking my person for being a Christian, a Catholic for speaking the obvious”.
“I was in the cabinet as a former minister in this Federal Republic of Nigeria, I know the pain and the situation we went through as we were in government with the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. It was unthinkable that we want to do North back to North, it will not work for us as a people or country”.
” Let us not in a hurry forget where we are coming from nor that the wealth of this nation is squarely rested in the South particularly in my dear Delta state and all other riverine states.
We cannot be told to close our eyes on the issue of rotational Presidency between the North and South as it is a No! No! for us as a nation.
Fellow Nigerians, this is very serious let your conscience be your guide. Let the South do their turn for Presidency for another one term of 8 years and then power moves back to the North.
“Nobody can claim that, they have more friends and acquaintances than myself but the fact that we must live as a people by respecting the idiosyncrasies of each other, by that order and arrangement, it has to be a Southern President.”
Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi in his statement also gave a candid advice saying, “I advice Atiku to renounce that comment which I find very embarrassing for a man that has lived the kind of life he has lived that he is going to pursue a “RUGA policy” as a President, that is a policy every Christian, Southerner, and every man with a sense of belonging, wanting a country like Nigeria to exist and remain a country has rejected in its totality so for Atiku to come and tell us that he will pursue a RUGA policy, it is a NO! NO!
“All Christians, Nigerians, Southerners, great Northerners that truely want peace and love must vote against Atiku as we do not want any further strive in this country, Nigeria have suffered massive strive as a people and cannot continue with such.”
