The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has told Akinwunmi Ambode that he will fail if he chooses to contest on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in 2023.
The Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, stated this on Wednesday while reacting to statements by the PDP that the former governor will be welcomed by the opposition party.
Oladejo said the PDP had made it clear that Olajide Adediran, aka Jandor, would be its governorship candidate in the next poll.
He said Ambode should therefore not be deceived.
The Lagos APC spokesman said, “I think the PDP is idle and the PDP is just promising people. How many governorship tickets do they want to give out? Haven’t they promised the ticket to Jandor? So they are now reaching out to Ambode?
“One would expect that Mr Akinwunmi Ambode would know better than to dance to the tune of deceit in the PDP. What is the PDP’s record in governorship elections in Lagos State? Anyone who gets a PDP ticket is certain of failure.”
A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Lagos State, Ganiu Taofik, had on Tuesday, encouraged Ambode to join the opposition party.
Taofik noted that Ambode has some chances to return as Lagos governor in 2023 if he joins the PDP.
Ambode served as Governor of Lagos State from 2015 to 2019.
He lost in a governorship primary election to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, denying him an opportunity to run for a second term.
However, Ambode, who has been on hiatus following his failed re-election bid, made headlines on Tuesday after he returned to social media to encourage Nigerian youths to get their Permanent Voters Card ready for 2023.
