… As Committee Continues Media Tour Ahead of IBILE Awareness Campaign On State Intervention Programmes
In furtherance of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to uplifting and empowering vulnerable persons in the state, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Social Protection has revealed that the State Single Social Register currently has 2.6 Million names in its database while it gears up for the IBILE Awareness Campaign On Social Protection Programmes of Lagos State, starting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

and “The Conversation” on Lagos Television this Wednesday, Mrs. Oluwakemi Gabadeen-Adedeji, Director of Social Protection Coordinating Department (SPCD) in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, noted that since the State Executive Council approved the Social Protection Policy, the Department now has a comprehensive Single Social Register which has 213 data points on each individual captured, including their NIN and BVN among other vital details.
“Currently, we have 2.6 million people on the register and registration is a continuous process. Globally, the practice of Social Protection allows you to know who you are dealing with in terms of uplifting households so it’s not an exception as far as Lagos State’s concerned”, she explained.
Furthermore, to bring cohesion to the delivery of these social interventions, Adedeji said the Social Protection Implementation Working Group, including strategic MDAs, was set up to churn out new ways to deliver interventions to vulnerable households, adding that there are over 90 social interventions in Lagos State. “Our goal is to boost human capital development so we can develop these households to enable them to cater for themselves”, she added.
On the forthcoming IBILE SP Campaign, said the Committee would be engaging council managers and key stakeholders from CDAs, CDCs and vulnerable households when the tour kicks off next week, starting with the Ikeja division, …
“The goal is to ensure that the people visibly see the efforts of the Lagos State Government in ensuring that they are not left behind through the various interventions in place. Hence, we intend to adopt a community-based approach to identify those who need these interventions and continue to do the needful so they can access our services and engage with us on the following numbers: 07041252261 and 0703614224”, she stated.
Also speaking, Ms. Oyin Egbeyemi, Director of Programmes and Coordination, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) stated that the Agency has the mindset to create jobs which are open to everyone in Lagos State. It also has an inclusion policy and seeks to incorporate other vulnerable groups in the scheme of things. In this regard, we have employability programmes to help people access jobs and we equally carry out industry engagements too.
On his part, Mr. Babatunde Shafiu, Head of Legal Department, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), said the Lagos State Government has been intentional about protecting People with Disabilities (PWDs). He added that LASODA annually empowers unemployed PWDs with N100,000 each and about 200 persons benefitted this year. In December 2024, 150 elderly PWDs would also received N200,000 each. These are some of the interventions in place, all thanks to the Lagos State Government.
Also speaking during the media tour, Mrs. Olufunke Shyllon, Director, Women Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) explained that, as a collaborating partner with the Social Protection Coordinating Department, WAPA’s mission is to ensure all women in Lagos State can fend for themselves and ensure no woman’s left behind in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda, noting that there are 19 skill acquisition centres across the state where skills can be learnt so everyone can live a dignified life.
