The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, has reaffirmed the District’s commitment to excellence in education at the 19th Annual Merit Award Ceremony, held at Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, to recognize and celebrate the dedication, resilience, and outstanding contributions of educators and administrative staff within the district.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Adekanye applauded the awardees for their tireless efforts in shaping the future of students and raising academic standards across the district. She emphasised that their commitment to service has not only enhanced student performance but also contributed to the overall development of Lagos State’s education sector.

 

The TG/PS highlighted the Lagos State Government’s continuous investment in education, including the provision of digital learning tools, professional development programmes, and infrastructure upgrades, expressing gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hazmat and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, for their unwavering support in driving educational reforms.

 

Adekanye applauded the Chairman of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, and the Board members for their due diligence in recruiting qualified teachers and training and retraining them for optimal service delivery.

 

Some of the awards presented were for the Best Principal (Senior Category), Mrs. Akinwunmi Olukemi, Ajegunle Senior High School, Ketu; Best Principal (Junior Category), Mrs. Babalola Theresa, Igbobi Junior High School, Somolu; while the best teachers in both Senior and Junior Categories were presented to Mr. Lawal Peter and Mrs. Ademosu Kehinde respectively, amongst other Awardees.

 

Special Recognition and Awards were also presented to retired Districts’ Tutor-General/Permanent Secretaries, the NUT Lagos State Chapter, the Zonal NUT, and the ANCOPPS Chairmen of the three zones in the District.
